Winther is the Specialist Director of the Norwegian Polar Institute and also serves as the first Director of Norway’s new National Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic. He is an engineer by profession and holds a PhD in polar hydrology. Winther has an extensive background in research of Arctic waters.
