This study examines China’s role in global climate governance in the current international context. In 2026, the SPS will focus on policies for China to achieve its new emission reduction target through 2035 under the Paris Agreement (the so-called Nationally Determined Contributions).

Special Policy Study: Promoting Nature-Positive Policies and Practices
This study examines policies for China to achieve the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s (KMGBF) 30×30 targets, synergies between biodiversity and climate goals, and how nature conservation can create socioeconomic benefits. This year, the study will explore synergies between the KMGBF and the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement, or “High Seas Treaty”, which will enter into force in 2026.
