Sir Andrew Steer

Sir Dr. Andrew Steer is Professor in Practice of the Global School of Sustainability at the London School of Economics and Political Science. On February 1, 2026, Dr Steer was appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, a role he will hold until January 31, 2030.

He is a former President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund. He joined the Earth Fund from the World Resources Institute, where he served as President & CEO for over eight years. Prior to this, Dr Steer has served as the World Bank’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, Director General at the UK Department of International Development, and Head of the World Bank in Vietnam and Indonesia.

Dr. Steer is a CCICED Council Member, Global Agenda Trustee for the World Economic Forum, Commissioner of the Energy Transitions Commission, co-chair of the Greening the Belt and Road Coalition, and member of the Advisory Committees of the Asian Development Bank and Bank of America. He was educated at St. Andrews University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Cambridge University and has a PhD in international economics and finance.
