Galit Cohen is the Israel Director of the Jewish Climate Trust. She served as Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection between 2021–2023, where she advanced climate legislation, carbon pricing, and energy transition policies, and represented Israel in international climate negotiations. Earlier, as Deputy Director General for Policy & Strategy, she shaped Israel’s long-term environmental and climate agenda for over a decade.
Galit also served as Head of the Climate Change & National Security Program at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), where she developed research and policy recommendations on the intersection of climate risks and national security. She has driven systemic domestic reforms in environmental governance and spearheaded initiatives on climate resilience, adaptation, and sustainable development. Her work focuses on building partnerships across government, philanthropy, academia, and civil society to address the climate crisis through innovation and policy impact.
She lectures at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and contributes to international dialogues on climate change, environmental policy, and regional cooperation. Galit holds a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences and an M.A. in Geography with a specialization in Environmental Management from the Hebrew University.
