Suzhou Energy Storage

Suzhou has successfully met record energy demand through developing large-scale energy storage and China’s largest virtual power network for electric vehicles. By integrating 540 MW of storage and 60,000 charging stations, the city maintained a stable power supply in 2024 without adding coal-fired capacity.

This digitalized model replaces traditional fossil-fuel peak shaving with flexible, decentralized resources. Suzhou’s success highlights a path for high-growth regions to decouple economic prosperity from coal dependence while ensuring grid resilience.
