The IUCN World Conservation Congress brings together IUCN’s government, civil society and indigenous peoples’ Member organisations to take decisions related to major conservation issues.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 was originally scheduled to take place from 11-19 June 2020, in Marseille, France. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was rescheduled. It will take place from 3-11 September 2021.

The Congress will comprise the following components:

  • Forum (4-7 September)
  • Exhibition (4 -9 September)
  • IUCN Members’ Assembly (8-10 September)
  • Nature Generation Areas, or “Espaces Générations Nature” (4-11 September)

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress last convened in 2016 in Hawai’i, US, and was attended by approximately 10,000 participants from 192 countries. The SDG Knowledge Hub summary of outcomes from the 2016 Congress is here.
